Special Camper Battaillon Interview
Please introduce your clan and yourselves.
Our clan is named Special Camper Battaillon <SCB>. The clan is purely made for Vietcong and we have about 20 members. The clan was founded in June 2003 by four good friends who come from Frankfurt in Germany. Their nicknames are Adrenalin, PapaBaer, Jah and XetraDACHS.
Since November we have actively played clan wars, and since February we have been represented in the ESL ladder by several other teams.
What are your goals in the clan ranking list?
We have a couple of two on two teams in the ESL ladder that just play for fun. In the six on six ladder our team named "SCB Mojo" has played one match, but our real and best team is named "SCB HitBaCk".
Today we are placed as the 20th team in the ladder, and our goal is to be in the top 20, although we do not take this too seriously. That is why we do not have a lot of matches in the ESL ladder. A lot of good clans are entering the ladder and because of this the top 20 goal will probably be difficult to accomplish.
What has been the toughest match in your clan career?
In our opinion the toughest match was against the ]DH[ clan. The war started out very good and in the first minute we were able to control the other clan and get a point. Unfortunately the ]DH[ clan got right back and dominated the match.
The most thrilling match has been against the FGP clan. We played the WaterFall multiplayer map as the Vietcong in the first round and it was very well balanced. In the last minutes they got our flag and our sniper, who had survived, was not able to kill the flag runner, although he shot ten times with his SVD Dragunov sniper rifle aiming for the head. The second round we tried to use a new tactic and got surprised; we captured the flag four times. This was the first time in the match that we played really good on the WaterFall map.
The second map that we played on was NVABase. We captured the flag as the Vietcong team three times, but then our TeamSpeak® server crashed, and obviously we could not co-ordinate the team well, so the FGP clan captured two flags. So with a four point lead we were quite happy.
We do not like to play as the US in the NVABase map, and as the FGP clan was very strong, they captured seven flags in that round. We captured their flag once, and with that being said, we had lost the match.
How often do you practice and how is it done?
We actually do not practice as nobody wanted to join our clan when we founded it. So we had to be known as the clan without any duties (practices being one of them).
We only practice when we are playing on public servers. Occasionally we have practice matches against the #team-aod and GTO clans which are our new training alliance. We will probably practice every week with the GTO clan in the future.
Sometimes we also join empty servers to practice some tricks.
How did your clan start with Vietcong?
We started out being a Vietcong and Jedi Knight II clan, but after a while we decided to kick Jedi Knight II seeing that we forgot playing it because of Vietcong. In July 2003 we were four players on the team (the founders) and played the team deathmatch (TDM) game type on the HalongPort map on a home server.
Our first clan war was against the Bad Boys clan, but unfortunately they left the server before the war was over.
Then we noticed that it was much better to play on a dedicated server and discovered the capture the flag (CTF) game type. Our first real clan war was against the JDV clan, and took place in November 2003.
Meanwhile we found some players who wanted to join us; they were named DEFENDER, Nightwish and FouCard.
Since then the clan has grown to be better and better.
What is the best thing you like about Vietcong?
Before I started playing Vietcong, I had only played games like SWAT 3, Rainbow Six and so on.
I did not like shooters which were based on a war because these games were always unrealistic. In Vietcong you cannot carry five weapons, a rocket launcher and 20 grenades. Compared to other games I think that the weapon models and sounds of Vietcong are the best I have ever seen and heard. But the best thing in my opinion is the unique aiming system. There are other games that also use this system, but in those games you cannot, in my opinion, really aim with the weapon.
What is the worst thing about Vietcong in your opinions?
The worst things are the small bugs. There are many places on nearly all maps where you can look through a wall. For example we know a lot of places on the HalongPort map where this is possible. To mention the other bugs, you can be invisible on the WaterFall map and also slide on the ground. It is quite fun to make tricks by sliding, but when there are players who use this bug in a clan war or in a public server for their advantage, we dislike it.
Another thing we do not like about Vietcong is that you cannot quick save your game as often as you want to when playing on the "Normal", "Hard" and "Vietnam" difficulties. In our opinions games should allow you to quick save as often as necessary. So we do not like to play on the harder difficulties, although the AI is quite silly on the easiest difficulty.
If you could choose from only one thing, what would be your perfect improvement for Vietcong?
We would have chosen a new and faultless version of the HradBa anti-cheat system that could recognise all known cheats and wall hacks. This would also allow us to play on the IndianCountry multiplayer map without being kicked by HradBa and the Vietcong community would not suspect all clans of being cheaters.

We would like to thank the Special Camper Battaillon <SCB> clan for joining the interview.
