Vietcong Survey Statistics

Closer statistical analyses showed that the participants' hardware specific questions were answered in a large variety.

21% of the players contained large monitors and played the game at resolutions of 1280x1024, while 51% were running the game at a resolution of 1024x768. The statistics also showed that 86% were using the Windows XP operating system and that the AMD Athlon XP processor, with 40% of the votes, was almost equal to Intel's Pentium 4 processors, with 42% of the votes.

Due to the high hardware prices, 43% of the Czech players were running the game with a processing speed of 1-2 GHz in comparison to the rest of the world, which had 24% of the votes. The analyses also showed that Czech players generally stuck to 512 MB of RAM (58%), while 30% of the world used 1 GB of RAM. In terms of video cards, both ATI and NVIDIA had a 50% vote ratio each.

The leading sound hardware vendor, Creative Labs, won the sound card department with 37% of the votes, while 25% used the onboard AC97 sound chip or did not know their hardware specification at all. What is most noticeable in the audio section is that 34% of the players preferred the multi speaker positional audio function, which helps players to immerse themselves into the jungle and hear their opponents from the correct angle. However, 31% of the players preferred to use headphones, which also means that we will focus more on this function in our future game projects.

Monopolistic analyses of the Czech Telecom company showed the major difference in the network connection section, in which 17% were modem users in comparison to the 40% of the DSL users.

In terms of the multiplayer inquires, the "capture the flag (CTF)" game type was the most preferred one and won with 57% in comparison to the runner up, which was "cooperative (COOP)" with 20% of the votes. While the large percentage of the two previously mentioned game types was a success, "last man standing" and "turn table" were less successful, followed by "deatmatch (DM)", which was given 28% of the votes for being the worst game type. This was a surprise as the Halong Port multiplayer map was voted to be the best one available with 17% of the votes, while the Stream and NVA Base multiplayer maps followed shortly after.

The soldier class received 55% of the votes in terms of the US Army team, while the most hated class was the machine gunner, which was most likely related to the disliked M60 machinegun. The M16 assault rifle won the title as being the best weapon with 57% of the votes. The AK47 assault rifle received 61% of the votes for being the best weapon for the Vietcong team, in which the fighter class was also admired with 54% of the votes.

Even though the weapon statistics were better for the Vietcong team, most players preferred to play as the US Army with 42% of the votes in comparison to the Vietcong team with 25% of the votes.

The voice chat function was not admired among the players and will therefore not be implemented in future game releases made by PTERODON.
