1. How can I receive help with a technical problem I am experiencing with one of your games?
You may contact PTERODON at the PTERODON Help Desk with such enquires or ask for help at the official PTERODON forum. Before creating a new thread, please remember to read the PTERODON forum guidelines.
2. Are there any patches available for Vietcong and Vietcong 2?
Yes. All Vietcong patches are available at the Take-Two Interactive support page, while all Vietcong 2 related patches are available at the 2K Games support page. The latest patch version available for Vietcong is v1.60, while the latest Vietcong 2 patch version is v1.01.
3. I am having some trouble with installing the CD version of Vietcong 2. What can I do to solve this?
Copy all of the CDs contents onto your local hard drive (i.e. to your desktop) and install the game by running the "setup.exe" file from there. This ought to install the game successfully, including all game icons, the recommended EAX4 Unified Redist driver that enables the EAX Unified Technology audio feature of Vietcong 2, and registry entries.
Please note that subsequent to installing the game from your hard drive, the installation files are no longer required and may be safely deleted.
4. My Vietcong 2 disc cannot be read after installing the game. What can I do to run Vietcong 2?
Open the folder, in which you installed Vietcong 2 and locate the "vietcong2.exe" file. Right click on the file, select "Launch Analysis", and follow the on-screen instructions. A file named "AnalysisLog.sr0" ought to be available in your root directory (e.g. C:\AnalysisLog.sr0). Send this file, as well as a "DirectX Diagnostic" report, to support@securom.com. Afterwards, you ought to receive a solution to the problem in form of a corrected executable file for Vietcong 2.
5. I cannot run Vietcong 2. Are there any special requirements for me to run the game correctly?
Yes. Vietcong 2 requires a DirectX(R) 9.0 compliant video card with pixel shader 2.0 support.
6. I keep receiving a “Cannot Initialize Cryptengine” error message while playing multiplayer in either Vietcong or Vietcong 2. What does this mean?
The HradBa anti-cheat programme uses a number of Microsoft Windows functions for encrypting data, and therefore needs a newer version of a library, which you probably do not have. You can update that library by installing the newest version of the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser or by installing the latest Service Pack for your Microsoft Windows operating system.
You can see your cipher strength status in your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser by clicking the "Help" menu bar and thereafter clicking "About Internet Explorer". You will see a “cipher strength” value written there, which should display 128-bit for HradBa to function correctly.
7. While playing Vietcong or Vietcong 2 online, my ping is usually too high. Is there anything I can do to lower my ping value?
Make sure to join servers consisting of relatively low ping values. The ping is primarily based on the location of the server, in which you are playing. Therefore, it is important to join servers that are closest to your own location to ensure maximum stability.
8. I would like to host a Vietcong or Vietcong 2 server. Are there any specific requirements for me to run my server correctly?
